LOVELL RADIO TELESCOPE HDR MSP0003236
The Lovell radio telescope sited at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire, England, is one of five radio telescopes that make up the Merlin array. The other four are sited accross the country , but join forces to amplify radio signals even further,
This particular telescope was constructed in 1947 and undergoes continual repair and maintenance.
The bowl measures 218 ft (66metres) in diameter and when pointed directly skywards in an average rain fall can apparently collect enough rain water to flush ten toilets per second.
The Telescope is so sensitive it can pick up a mobile phone signal from the surface of the moon.
